America's Coffee Roasting Capitals, 2026
Raw roaster counts crown the biggest metros by default, so this ranking asks a fairer question: pound for pound, which American cities are truly built around fresh-roasted coffee? We scored every US city over 50,000 people with at least three independent roasters on two things — roasters per 100,000 residents, and the median Google rating of those roasters. Density says the beans are everywhere; the rating says they're worth crossing town for.

Methodology
We maintain a national directory of 6,818 independent US coffee roasters and roaster-cafés, compiled from public business listings and 1,900,411 customer reviews. For this ranking we took every city with a 2024 Census population of at least 50,000 and at least three rated roasters in the directory, computed roasters per 100,000 residents, took the median Google rating of the city's roasters, and multiplied the two. Counts are what we can verify from public listings — treat them as floors ("at least N roasters"), not ceilings. Populations are US Census Bureau 2024 estimates. Everything on this page is recomputed on every data refresh; nothing is hand-entered.
